Space Launch System
Today NASA formally unveiled this Space Launch System (SLS), which would replace Ares to launch missions beyond Earth orbit. This design resembles the DIRECT system championed by rebel engineers. It is planned to initially launch 70 ton payloads to low Earth orbit, eventually evolving to 130 tons. SpaceX's planned Falcon Heavy would launch 53 tons. This plan will leverage the expertise and human resources of the Shuttle program.

I read on wikipedia that this was a fusion of ARES I and V. So, what does it have from DIRECT proposal?
8.3 meter diameter first stage (like Shuttle) rather than the 10 meters of Ares V. Human rated with crew capsule and launch escape system on top like DIRECT. Resembles DIRECT, but not the same design.

Judging from history. In a few years NASA will have blown millions of dollars and have nothing but a nice thick report with lots of drawings. Meanwhile Space-X will be delivering hardware to orbit. Nasa needs to get out of the business of building rockets. They haven't been able to build a good one since Von Bron died. (Yes I just called the shuttle a POS)
We know there is very long and special procedure for launching space because that is not easy. A large number of people work like a team on this project like some students do on project of resume planet so we should watch this video to know how a space shuttle launch.
